  • Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, met Italy’s prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, and president, Sergio Mattarella, in Rome. Prominent Italian politicians, including Matteo Salvini, deputy prime minister in Ms Meloni’s right-wing coalition, have previously expressed pro-Kremlin views. However, Ms Meloni has said that her government will continue to support Ukraine, even if some voters disapprove. Mr Zelensky also met Pope Francis at the Vatican, and is expected to travel next to Germany. The German government announced €2.7bn ($2.95bn) of military aid for Ukraine ahead of his arrival.
